Book Review: The Lux Series ★★★★

Hey Everyone!

Lux_Series

So, I just finished reading the Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, over the span of a week, might I add. The series is about a teenage girl named Katy Swartz who just moved to West Virginia with her mother to a very small town. At first, like any other kid, she’s pretty upset about leaving her entire world behind. She’s an only child living with her mom (her dad passed away from cancer). She sucks it up because she knows her mother needs to move on. Now Katy doesn’t know anyone here but her neighbourhood (of literally 10 people) seems just fine, normal..though what she doesn’t know is she lives beside some weird, supernatural teenagers….

**may contain spoilers**

So eventually, Katy meets her next door neighbours, Dee and Daemon Black, twins. Dee is a young girl Katy’s age who is described as being pretty and one of the nicest kids in town. The two girls instantly click and become super close friends. Daemon on the other hand, is a completely different story. He’s stubborn, egotistic, guarded and just flat out annoying. Oh but there’s one characteristic Katy immediately noticies from this boy. He’s beautiful. Daemon has piercing green eyes, a hot bod and is quite charismatic he wants to be. Now, I don’t want to ruin the entire series for you, so I’m going to stop there.

Anyway, one thing I will tell you is that Dee and Daemon are definitely not normal people, as Katy first assumed. There’s a reason why other students in the school refer to their ‘clique’ as weird, even referring to these kids as ‘them.’ Dee, Daemon and others, like Ash, Matthew, Adam and Andrew are all Luxen. Luxen (means light in latin) are creatures literally from another planet who are made of light – basically aliens. They have special powers that allow them to shoot light out of them, run super fast, never get sick, move things around with their minds and even disappear. They are enemies of the Aurm. Arum (means darkness in latin) have the same powers as the Luxen, though they have one main weakness – they can be destroyed by a special stone called obsedian. Hit an arum with one of those, and poof, they’re dead. As morbid as that sounds, it’s only for protection. Their entire existence surrounds killing Luxen, the good guys, so they have to do something.

Okay, so now that you know the basic story of the series, I’m not going to reveal anything else. I wouldn’t want to spoil the whole story! If that hasn’t convinced you to read the series, I don’t know what else to say other than it’s also pretty romantic and who doesn’t love that.

What I Loved:

I absolutely loved the characters in this book, but especially Katy, Dee and Daemon. They change so much over the course of the series that if you read the first book and I told you how they were at the end of the third, you wouldn’t even believe me. It’s really cool to see their relationships with each other grow as they continue to learn more about each other. Katy gets more and more involved in the whole Luxen vs. Arum drama as you find out about an entire new species.

What Could Be Changed:

Honestly, the only thing that I would have changed about this series so far (there’s more books coming out) is that I wish the books were longer! They’re not slow at all and it makes the story happen so fast that you just want to keep on reading and reading. Can’t wait until August!

Okay, so that’s all for this series so far, but as soon as the fourth book comes out, I’ll review that too! I give the first three books of the Lux Series four stars and recommend it to anyone looking for something totally different.
