Rebekah L. Purdy’s The Winter People has a very unique fairytale-esque/fantasy/paranormal theme, which I definitely enjoyed. So many elements reminded me of some of my most beloved TV shows and books. The winter people themselves reminded me of Game of Thrones in a way with their white walkers, the whole fairytale aspect reminded me of Once Upon a Time and the ‘bonding’ took me back to my Vampire Academy spirit bound days – this book was quite a journey 🙂 It follows Salome Montgomery, a 17 year old girl who lives with her loving mother alone most of the time because her dad is constantly travelling for his job. She always finds herself spending time with her grandparents, who live just down the street. When they ask her to take care of their house for the winter months while they go on vacation, Salome is scared because of a traumatic experience she had as a child which has left her with a horrible fear of snow and really, winter in general. In The Winter People, readers go on Salome’s personal journey of fear, discovery, loss, love and bravery.

Okay so, I went into this book as I do with most books I don’t know much about: with an open mind and expecting a decent read. Boy, oh boy, was I taken aback (in a good way…a really good way) I’ll start you guys off with the Goodreads summary:

Before reading Tortured Souls, I hadn’t read many paranormal books, though I’d like to say that one of my debuts into the genre was a pleasant surprise! To start, I have a short summary:

This book follows a 15 year old girl named Kassandra (although she goes by Kacie and CiCi) who leads a relatively normal life, living with her father, Adam, her brother, Gavin and her super-loving dog, Kodiak. Oh, fairly normal except for the fact that she is clairvoyant meaning she can see and communicate with spirits, both good and, unfortunately, very very evil. Since early childhood, she has recognized her “gift” (as not so much a gift, but a curse really) and shared this information with her parents. That very day, her mother fled the house and never returned – something Adam, her father, will always blame her for. When she starts going on early-morning runs with her longtime crush, the very dreamy and brave Logan, she is introduced into a whole new paranormal world which she had no idea she was living in – The Orion Circle only accepts select and elite individuals. Stacking The Shelves {1}

Hellllooooo everyone! Today I came across a feature called Stacking The Shelves on Tynga’s Reviews.  (Go check them out on that blog!) Essentially, this is a weekly post where all of us booklovers can share our hauls – whether it be physical books, e-books or library books. I thought this was a great idea because as much as I would love to read all of my new books, it might take a while to get to them. With this feature, I can rave all about these books and share my excitement! Sidenote: Now, this blog is run only by myself at the moment so, I might not have one every week, but once I’ve accumulated enough to make a blog post on, I will!
