As I was browsing through GoodReads, YouTube and other blogs, I came across a cool weekly post idea called Waiting on Wednesday. Basically, every Wednesday you post about a new book that you’re waiting very
impatiently for. We thought this was a fantastic idea, so we’re hoping to post one up every week!
For our first one, I went with a series that I absolutely love so far called The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Cress, the third book in the series, has a release date for February 4, 2014 which means we’re going to have to wait a little while longer. (noooo!) Cinder and Scarlet, the first two books, are definitely favourites of mine mainly because I loved the fairytale aspect of them that are relatable to the bedtime stories I heard, but have intriguing changes to them.
The Lunar Chronicles are based in a dystopian land, The Empire, that is ruled by the evil Queen Tatiana. Cinder is a young, hard-working, mechanic genius girl who is, if you can’t tell by the name yet, based off of Cinderella. Her character is quite fitting to the original fairytale (she even has the evil step-relatives), although, Cinder is different because she’s cyborg – half human, half robot. Definitely an interesting twist. Oh and she meets her Prince Charming – er I mean Prince Kai..
Scarlet Benoit is yet another hard-working girl who lives with her grandmother in a farmhouse in France – quite a long way from Cinder who lives in New Beijing. Scarlet works at a family cafe/bar when she starts to notice a young, handsome man coming into her place regularly. His name is Wolf. I think you can guess who she’s based off of. Yep, you got it; Little Red Riding Hood. There’s no walking off the wrong path in this book though, not literally at least…
The third instalment to this series (thankfully not the last) is called Cress and is based off of one of my favourite fairytales as a child. Rapunzel. Here’s the synposis:
Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair – or her guard.
In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker – unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can…
This book sounds just amazing! I think the best part will be having the opportunity to see Cinder, Scarlet and Cress working together. Cinder and Scarlet’s stories already intertwined with each other in the last book, so it should be cool to see how Cress fits into this, too. I wonder if she gets her own love interest as well. If this is the first time you’re hearing about the series, I hope this has convinced you to start reading it. I’m definitely counting down the months ‘till this is released. Are you guys excited too? For what reasons?
