SO BASICALLY I loved this book so much from the amazing characters, the unreal Grisha world, the adventures, the struggles, the victories, and the unexpected twists and turns.
As soon as The Darkling was introduced into the plot, I fell in love with his dark, mysterious attitude and thought, “YES. Alina and him are perfect for each other and will live happily ever after.” Boy was I wrong. Obviously I don’t want to spoil it, but let’s just say, expect the unexpected with this one..
On the other hand, I liked Mal and Alina was cool too. I thought the friendship Mal and Alina had was great and irreplaceable, and I loved how much their relationship with each other developed. (view spoiler) Alina was yet another female heroine, though it takes her quite some time to face the reality of who she really is and what she is actually capable of. (which is pretty unbelievable) It kind of bugs me that she’s so resistant/insecure about her powers though! Mal is extremely gifted in his own (view spoiler) way and he’s humble about it (most of the time) which is admirable too.
There is a love triangle (sort of) in this book, though it’s an interesting take of the typical ‘oh I love him, but I love him too..’ Alina’s feelings towards her two love interests stir up some conflicting feelings though, soon enough she realizes who has her best interest in mind…
Of course, I loved this world that Leigh Bardugo created – it’s crazy what one’s imagination can come up with. Although many authors have done their take on gifted people in some magical way, Miss Bardugo managed to make it unique and extremely interesting to read.
Anyway. I definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys dystopian novels, with a touch of romance and a ton of action. It’ll definitely keep you on your toes! Can’t wait to read the next one!
